Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has made headlines today by reportedly turning down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, signaling his intent to remain in European football. The 26-year-old, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, has attracted significant interest from top clubs following an outstanding 2024/25 season, where he scored 37 goals and provided eight assists in 41 appearances, helping Galatasaray secure a Turkish Super Lig and Turkish Cup double.

According to posts on X, Osimhen rejected Al-Hilal’s €30 million-per-season proposal, which included additional bonuses, mirroring an offer he declined last year. The Saudi club, preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup starting June 14, has set a deadline of June 10 for Osimhen to respond, as they aim to trigger his release clause with Napoli. However, sources indicate that Osimhen is prioritizing a move to a top European league, with an unnamed Italian club also reportedly prepared to meet his wage demands. Galatasaray, meanwhile, is pushing to retain the striker permanently, confident they can afford his release clause.

Chelsea remain a prominent contender for Osimhen’s signature, with reports suggesting the Blues are preparing an imminent offer for the Nigerian star, valued at around £63 million. The club’s interest persists despite their recent signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town for £30 million, as manager Enzo Maresca seeks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season and a return to the Champions League. However, concerns over Osimhen’s wage demands have been noted, with previous negotiations last summer stalling due to financial constraints.

Manchester United are also in the race, with their transfer chief reportedly engaging in talks with Napoli for a potential swap deal involving Rasmus Hojlund plus a £33.5 million fee. Nigeria’s national team coach, Eric Chelle, recently called Osimhen “the best striker in the world” and named United as a possible destination, though the lack of European football at Old Trafford next season could be a stumbling block. Arsenal have been mentioned as another potential suitor, with former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel suggesting a “door open” at the Emirates for Osimhen to compete in the Champions League.
